What chords go with what?

I am just starting guitar and the reason I am starting it is just to listen to how my songs sound on guitar but I don’t know if their are any rules like specific chords go with each other or something like that. If that is true could you give me a chart says which chords goes with which for the pop music guitar chords. Thanks in advanced!

Melodies go with Chords.

Musical Keys are comprised of 7 different notes, which each have their own chord, making 7 chords in each key.

Generally, the “chord sequence” of a song will be made up of a number of these 7 chords from the key which the song is in.

The melody is then written to fit the chords.

No, chords don’t really go with genres, it just depends on the key of the song.
